The show moves the setting to the present day
Reference: Graham Norton and guests: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). Like "The Day of the Jackal" (2024 UK release; 10 episodes between 45 and 56 minutes) opens, we are in “Munich, Germany” and are introduced to the Jackal as a maintenance man in an office building where he takes out a man for reasons that are unclear. The next day, the Jackal assassinates a leading far-right German politician.
At this point we are 10 minutes into episode 1
We then go to “London, England” and meet Bianca at MI6. A few notes: this TV miniseries is very loosely inspired by the original 1971 book and the 1973 big screen adaptation of the book. The story of the miniseries is completely new and different from the 1971 boob/1973 film.
The TV miniseries is set in the modern world
In fact, the only thing that remains from the original story is the Jackal character. When I watched Part 1, I felt like I was watching a new James Bond. In just episode 1 we go to 4 or 5 countries (the UK, Germany, Spain, and a few more I’m forgetting.
Eddie Redmayne as the title character seems to be having a great time with this
At the end of episode 2 the cast and mouse game starts and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. Unlike the 1971 book/1973 film where we know in advance what the outcome will be, in this 2024 miniseries we have no idea what to expect and how it will all unfold.""The Day the Jackal movie was highly anticipated and the first 5 episodes started streaming on Peacock yesterday (November 14), the remaining 5 episodes will be released over the next 5 Thursdays whether or not they are from the 1973 film, if a top-notch, James Bond-esque If you’re looking for a TV miniseries, I highly recommend watching this and drawing your own conclusions.
