When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least pitch the project to Ford, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been offered the project, sparking interest from other big-name actors.

Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role. Goldstein still didn’t understand what he had done to convince him, but he was elated. Featured on WatchMojo: The 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). And the rest of the show is great, too.
And Jessica is perfect
He has the weird, idiotically confident energy that the role requires. His humor is perfect for the dialogue. It’s a new take on sitcoms. No real jokes, just engaging personalities with oddities and family circumstances that are a little above the norm but still relatable.
It’s just impossible
Of course, Jimmy’s therapist-like behavior is completely absurd. You’d lose your license immediately. But in drama, we allow metaphorical situations. And in this script, we feel a strong sense of purpose for the solutions.
Other critics apparently balked
We have to give the writers a benefit and try to get the point across. It’s easy and fun for me.
