Told in three stories, "In the Land of Brothers" is able to capture the essence, complications, and heartbreaking scenarios of political conflict, relationships, culture, and the harshness of reality
Scenario
Three members of a large Afghan family begin their lives in Iran as refugees, unaware that they face a decades-long struggle to be “home.” I saw this at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. The filmmakers managed to capture the themes, tones, and writing of each of the three stories with good emotions, interesting characters, and moments that felt tense and depressing without being over the top.
Each character and writing is handled with maturity
and all of the actors’ performances are good. It really brought out the emotions between the characters and the heart of the film’s message and purpose.
The camerawork, production shots, and soundtrack are beautiful
There were moments that moved me and saddened me as I watched it. Personally, the first and third stories are still the most impressive.
Overall, the film strives to be another good Iranian film
Even though the second one has a few pacing mistakes, it was still good.
